BRIEF: Grocery store will donate all July 4 profits to veterans charity

Montgomery Advertiser (AL) - 7/1/2016

July 01--The parent company of Winn-Dixie has pledged to donate every cent the chain makes on the Fourth of July to Hope For The Warriors. They did the same thing last year, donating $3 million from the day's sales.

Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit that helps wounded servicemen and women and their families. That help includes everything from health programs to helping eligible families pay for housing and utilities.

The donation will come from all Southeastern Grocers stores, including Winn-Dixie, BI-LO and Harveys.

"Southeastern Grocers operates in states with some of the highest active-duty military populations in the United States," said Ian McLeod, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers. "We are committed to the communities we serve and we believe we all have a responsibility to contribute to the lives of those who have sacrificed for the nation."

Customers can also help by adding a personal note about a veteran or service member to the in-store Wall of Honor, which began June 22, or by donating at checkout through July 10.
