BRIEF: Another phone scam
Hawk Eye, The (Burlington, IA) - 8/21/2014
Aug. 21--Henry County Sheriff's office reported Wednesday that a resident answered a phone call from someone with a foreign accent claiming to be from the U.S. Treasury Department on behalf of the Veterans Administration.
The caller said money was set aside for disabled veterans and tried to get the target's checking account or savings account information, ostensibly to make a money deposit.
The resident then called the sheriff's office, which is reminding people to never give out personal information on the phone, and the scam may be focused on area retired or disabled military veterans.
