Art therapy courses offered for veterans

Daily Inter Lake, The (Kalispell, MT) - 7/24/2014

July 24--Art therapist Natalie Norrell is offering three five-week art therapy sessions for veterans.

The first session starts Aug. 5; other sessions are in September and October.

The 1000Words Vet Art Project provides opportunities for veterans to use short-term art-based interventions to explore their experiences of war and service to foster storytelling and thereby attain a greater level of personal understanding, awareness and peace.

The project will culminate in an art show for the Kalispell Art Walk on Dec. 5. The show is dedicated to recovery from trauma, mental illness and deployment.

Norrell has a Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology with a specialization in art therapy and trauma-focused, equine assisted psychotherapy.

She has worked in the healing arts for more than 20 years.

She is a working artist and passionate about creating change through the arts.

The project is supported through grants and donations. There is not cost to veterans
