Free film to focus on mental illness

Peninsula Daily News - 10/27/2017

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will host a free film Saturday at the Rose Theater in honor of Mental Health Awareness week.

The movie "Home," directed by Jono Oliver and released in 2013, tells the story of a man dealing with mental illness attempting to move from a group home to his own home.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., with the film beginning at noon at the theater at 235 Taylor St. Seating will be first-come, first-served. The Rose Theater seats 158 people.

Mental Health awareness week is technically the first week of October, which was designated in 1990 by Congress as a way to help educate the public about mental illness.

However October is Mental Health Awareness month, which is celebrated nationally. It was recognized by the Port Townsend City Council and Jefferson County Board of County Commissioners earlier this month.

NAMI representatives will take questions after the film and refreshments and door prizes will be available, with proceeds going to NAMI.

The event is expected to run until roughly

2 p.m.
